Everyone has a story. Everyone who’s lived has one – regardless of if they ran a business or worked for one. I love to tell stories – other people’s stories or listen to them tell their stories.
Last week, I had Thao Dang on the show and honestly it was a such a pleasure! During the interview I remember just staring at her and listening to her talk about her journey to setting up her business as an art director and photographic storyteller of engagement shoots; and being transported back to when I was a young girl.
My birthday is at the start of September – an awkward time I think because as a child, it meant the end of our summer holiday and school was starting soon. Back then, I made a fuse about it and my Mum still teases about how I would insist on celebrating it. That involved someone baking a cake, cooking the food and me having my friends coming round to celebrate with me. We would mostly sit around listening to music or watching the latest Soul Train video (No, MTV hadn’t been conceived then!); or just chatting amongst ourselves. It was almost a ritual and my closest friends looked forward to that time – as did I. Those were fun and some of the best memories of my childhood. My last birthday was a bit like that, when some of my oldest friends happened to be in town at the same time and my best friend Tess had all of us round to hers to celebrate my day – she remembered those days – complete bliss!
I tell you this because the seeds for Dream Corner were sown all those years ago and now get my fascination for stories and the art of conversation; and have to say only just understanding it when my guests tell me I am a ‘natural’ with Dream Corner.
That’s my story – well some of it; but what’s yours? How did you come to do what you do? How did you start your business? Or become a blogger? Or whatever else you do? You have a story that’s inspiring. Inspiring doesn’t have to be about ‘changing the world’ – but changing yours. Your story is inspiring. You may not think it is, but I am almost certain it is – to someone else. Sometimes we hid away and just see ourselves as ‘normal’ or ‘ordinary’. Well what may seem normal or ordinary to you will be extraordinary to someone else and a great inspiration.
I was chatting with a lady two weeks ago about her client coming on Dream Corner and just out the blue, I asked if she would like to come on; and said ‘I am sure there’s a story in you’! She thought about it for a second, and said actually I do have a story to tell as well. I listened to hers and knew there’ll be someone out there somewhere who will be inspired by how’s she’s coped with her challenge. It had never occurred to her to share hers.
So ladies (sorry gents!), I would love to hear your story and be honored if you shared it on Dream Corner’s ‘inspirational story’ section. You can find out more about what you have to do here – Inspirational stories; and I look forward to hearing it all and being inspired.
